May Coffee News: Summer flavors, boba and more!
May launches summer drinks full of flavor and surprises!
I’m waiting for those May flowers after a mostly chilly and rainy April where I live. But, with May also comes the launch of summer drinks at most every coffee shop. And many have already launched. We are seeing a mix of returning plus new drinks.

What’s happening in April at…
Starbucks
Starbucks’ summer menu is launching later than most, and will be available on Tuesday, May 7.
The new and exciting option is Boba-like pearls! These can be added to iced beverages.
There will also be new Summer-Berry Refreshers. It is “A sweet summer blend of raspberry, blueberry and blackberry flavors mixed with water, lemonade or coconutmilk and shaken with ice. These beverages are poured over Raspberry Flavored Pearls that deliver a delicate and deliciously burst of summer fun!”
The White Chocolate Macadamia Cream Cold Brew will also be returning!
The cake pop of the season will be orange cream.
Dutch Bros
Dutch Bros launched their first round of summer drinks May 1. They include:
The Mangonada Rebel is inspired by the iconic Mexican treat. This energizing take on a classic features a mix of Dutch Bros’ exclusive energy drink, Rebel, and mangonada flavor topped with Strawberry Fruit and Tajín®.
The Churro Freeze features blended caramel coffee w/ cinnamon sugar Soft Top and churro bits.
The Watermelon Fizz features watermelon infused sparkling water with strawberry fruit and a splash of lemonade.
The Mangonada is a returning drink. It launched last year and many people loved it. I think it’s a great blend of sweet & spicy.
I tried the Churro flavor with a cold brew today. It was a nice mix of sweet & cinnamon. Feel free to ask for extra caramel to be added! I probably will next time.
And later this month on Friday, May 17 is “Drink One for Dane.” Dutch Bros will donate a portion of every drink sold to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) and their mission to end ALS. There will also be a new sticker available that day.
“When we lift our cups to Drink One for Dane, we’re not only honoring the legacy of Dane Boersma [one of Dutch Bros’ founders], we’re actually igniting hope across the ALS and neuromuscular disease communities….Every beverage fuels our momentum and that momentum fuels our certainty that we can – and will – defeat ALS," said Morgan Roth, chief marketing officer at Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Dunkin’
Dunkin’ is launching some fun for the summer. They have a new Kiwi Watermelon Dunkin’ Refresher as well as offering Blueberry Donut Iced Coffee and Vanilla Frosted Donut Signature Latte, along with a Watermelon Burst Donut and the premiere of the Green Goddess Wrap. These are currently available.
Scooter’s
Scooter’s is out here with some delicious flavor combos. I find the Pineapple + Mint option intriguing! And S’mores are always a fan favorite. These are available as of May 1.

Caribou is launching their summer menu on May 2. It includes new permanent iced beverage lines! These are all the drinks that are being featured:
Strawberry Fruit Shaker: Coconutmilk shaken with ice, real strawberries, vanilla flavor and a signature strawberry base created with Tractor Beverage.
Peach Fruit Shaker: Coconutmilk shaken with ice, real peaches, vanilla flavor and a signature peach base created with Tractor Beverage.
Berry Punch Fruit Shaker: Coconutmilk shaken with ice, real strawberries, vanilla flavor and a signature punch base, with flavors of pomegranate and dark cherry, created with Tractor Beverage.
Blue Raspberry Energy: A sparkling energy drink flavored with blue raspberry. Available in original or lemonade flavor.
Peach Mango Energy: A sparkling energy drink with flavors of peach and mango. Available in original or lemonade flavor.
Strawberry Pineapple Energy: A sparkling energy drink with flavors of strawberry and pineapple. Available in original or lemonade flavor.
